Sofia Logan is a Stillwater, Minnesota-based singer, guitarist, and dancer whose work is informed by her travels around the world. She has traveled to Havana to study music and Cuban dance, lived in the Ecuadorian Amazon rainforest – inspiring her work in environmental activism – and studied Brazilian bossa nova guitar in Florianópolis, Brazil.

Sofia released her debut album, Waiting for You, Waiting for Me, on November 12th. She recorded the album in Duluth in December 2019 with producer, composer, and musician Andrew Turpening (www.soundandsight.net). Not only are Sofia’s travels reflected in her music (she sings in English, Spanish, and Portuguese), but also her love of American jazz. Sofia is a lifelong fan of Ella Fitzgerald, is a student of jazz vocal stylings, and loves the Jazz Age as much as Woodstock, drawing from both jazz and folk traditions in her music. Sofia was very fortunate to have two highly skilled collaborators on this album - her artistic parents: her father, author Chuck Logan, helped her write the lyrics of the original songs, and her mother, Jean Pieri, an award-winning photojournalist, shot all the photos for the album.

As a dancer, Sofia has shared the stage with Grammy winning Cuban singer Mayito Rivera (of Los Van Van fame) and legendary Cuban timba band Bamboleo. Sofia has two music videos in development in Cuba which will feature her as a dancer. Sofia is currently studying Cuban dance styles like son and salsa, as well as contemporary dance from the Martha Graham method.

Sofia’s travels have also influenced her spirituality and fueled her activism. During her travels to Bangladesh and India, she witnessed first-hand the impact of climate change on peoples’ lives. In the mountains of Dharamsala, India, Sofia met the Dalai Lama and studied Tibetan medicine. In Ecuador, she interned at a law office representing indigenous peoples’ rights in an environmental justice lawsuit against oil giant Chevron. Back in Minnesota, Sofia co-founded an organization in Stillwater dedicated to promoting sustainability and preserving the environment. Sofia’s interest in environmental activism led to cowriting a song with her father, “Waiting for You, Waiting of Me”; a quote from well-known climate activist Greta Thunberg is featured in the song.

Sofia is just getting started. Exciting things are in store for 2021! Sofia has multiple music videos in development for songs from her current album and has already begun recording music for her second album. Please continue to visit this website for updates on Sofia’s music and dance career!
